The weather is getting colder again and my Endure sweaters are back! My model Junoh is 6ft 4 and wears an XL sweater. Available at www.mikeyespinosa.bigcartel.com ! The T-shirt is associated with my latest Fairy Tale book “O&Love“
Sailor Uranus, probably one of the first LGBTQ characters in anime! Known for her powers of Earth, I took inspiration from miners and rock climbers when it came to her design. Using ropes and Carabiners (I think that’s what mountain climbing locks are called.)
Sailor Saturn also known as the soldier of death and rebirth. I wanted to create her image to be almost gothic. It was a little tricky to maintain a youthful and dark theme with her look so I took inspirations from Lolita.
Sailor Pluto, also known as Setsuna, the guardian of time and also Sailor Chibiusa. Being in a lonely place, I figured she would feel more confident being free hence why her clothing is limited and free flowing but she is still burdened by the weight she has which is the guardian of time. Arrows are a theme to show the power of time travelling and there are also clock themes in her design. Her tiara also shows a half moon and half sun to show that she is of both day and night because time is always constant.
My redesign of Sailor Neptune, I wanted to have sea Goddess like qualities, so there are a lot of tear drop shaped items, and dangling/draping pieces that she wears. Her ribbons fan out to create a fin like texture.
My redesign of Sailor Chibiusa, I wanted her to have similar themes to Sailor Moons appearance, but a lot more cuter! I feel like I made her face a little mature but because I wanted to have a more young teenage Chibiusa!
Last year, I had gone to see Les Miserables in the theatre in Londons West End. Rachelle Ann Go had just finished her role as Gigi in Miss Saigon and with such a powerful and emotional voice I wanted to hear her sing “I dreamed a dream.” As usual, I was blown away and I just had to draw her as Fantine.
I wanted to show the two sides of Fantine, before and after she was struck by hard times and her sacrifice. I did this by ripping pieces of paper and sticking it onto the base of her drawing to show how she became a victim of exploitation. She did an amazing job as Gigi and Fantine and I’m happy to hear that she is coming back to London to be in Hamilton!
A painting I did inspired by my trip to the Philippines of April 2016, one thing I noticed was the stars and how rare it is to see them in a city.
